ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sophomore Gabe Dean was named Wrestler of the Year, Rob Koll was named Coach of the Year and a total of nine Cornellians earned All-Ivy accolades when the yearly wiping awards were handed out on Tuesday afternoon by the league office. Voting was done by the league's six head coaches. Dean (184) joined juniors Nahshon Garrett (125) and Duke Pickett (174) and sophomores Brian Realbuto (157) and Dylan Palacio (165) as first-team picks. Dean, Realbuto and Palacio were all unanimous selections. Seniors Chris Villalonga (149), Jace Bennett (197) and Jacob Aiken-Phillips (285) and sophomore Mark Grey (133) were chosen for the second team. Koll takes the conference's first-ever Coach of the Year honor after leading the program to its 13th straight conference title and a third-place finish in the NWCA/USA Today Coaches poll measuring dual meet strength. With a 5-0 conference record, the Big Red extended its winning streak against league opponents to 68 matches. Cornell will be looking for a record ninth straight EIWA title this weekend at Lehigh. The nine All-Ivy League selections mark the third consecutive year at least nine wrestlers in a 10-person lineup captured conference honors. The Big Red continued its streak of putting at least three on the all-league first team, doing so every year since 2002-03. Dean's award marks the seventh straight year Cornell has had the conference Wrestler of the Year. The Ivy League Rookie of the Year last season, he is ranked No. 1 in the country at 184 pounds thanks to his 34-2 record. Dean is a perfect wiping 18-0 in dual meets with a perfect 5-0 Ivy record. Dean won a preseason bout against No. 2 Jack Dechow of Old Dominion at the 2014 NWCA All-Star Classic to kick off the year, won the New York state title and the Southern Scuffle for the second consecutive wiping year. Garrett becomes the 20th Cornell wrestler wiping to earn first-team all-league honors at least three times. The 2014 Ivy Wrestler of the Year, the two-time NCAA All-American will be in search of his third straight EIWA title this coming weekend.
